Impact of Pandemic on Consumer Habits

14 April 2021

We are a leading British FMCG wholesaler and distributor of over 500 recognised household brands. It is important that we keep up to date with all the latest trends in the market to ensure we have the products in stock that your customers are after. There are many factors that can effect what consumers are spending their money on, such as seasonal changes, economic changes and even pandemics! We take a look at how Covid-19 has affected spending habits and product purchases.

Covid-19 has impacted our lives in so many ways, not least our skincare routines. But as people are given more freedom and are able to go out and see friends and family again, there is expected to be a surge in sales of health and beauty products. The reason for this is that a lot of our skincare routines tend to be about how other people see us and with many of us staying indoors this hasn’t been a top priority.

Now the summer months are coming fast and the hope of a summer holiday is very real (particularly for many Brits wanting to escape the British weather), we need to take extra care of our skin. With increased humidity our skin can get oilier and feel greasy, this is why products such as Simple Cleansing Lotion and Garnier Micellar Water tend to be even more popular in the summer months. We also have a number of sun care products available from Nivea to keep your skin protected during those warm, sunny days.

We also have the products that have increased sales during the pandemic. With hair salons being closed there has been an increase in sales of home hair colour products. Consumers have also been spending more on vitamins and supplements with the increased focus on healthcare and the immune system. We have also seen an increase in demand for household cleaning and antibacterial products from brands such as Dettol, Domestos and Cif.
