Meet The Team - Senior Buyer

In this weeks Meet the Team feature we talk to Amy, the Senior buyer here at Intamarque.  Amy has worked with the company for over 10 years. We find out what Amy hoped to be when she was younger and how she has been spending lockdown.

What is your job role at Intamarque?
I am the Senior Buyer at Intamarque. It’s my job to ensure our core lines are replenished and to help source new lines to add to our portfolio or to meet customer requirements. I liaise closely with the sales, logistics and marketing teams to give our customers the best possible service.
 
Tell us about a typical day in your job and has this been impacted by the pandemic?
 A typical day for me is communicating with my suppliers about promotional and ad hoc offers and analysing our stock holding. I work closely with the other buyers and we have a daily meeting with our sales team to discuss new product opportunities, address any queries and collectively implement new procedures internally.

The pandemic has resulted in increasing demand of particular products and an increase in the variants we may typically list. We have worked with our suppliers to adapt to this. Another impact of the pandemic as in many companies would be rise in virtual meetings over face to face interaction. Whether it’s cats meowing, dogs barking or children demanding snacks at 9am in the background (yes that last one is my house!) we have all had a bit of adjusting to do and I am proud of how everybody has risen to the challenge.

What do you love most about your job?
I love the fast pace of the job and the variety. It’s certainly never boring!

Every day brings new challenges. The FMCG market is constantly changing and evolving and we as a company have to learn to adapt to changes in product demand, pack changes, RRP alterations and marketing to name only a few. I have been at Intamarque for over ten years now and one of the most rewarding things is watching how the company is growing and adapting to different ways of working.

We have a great team who really go above and beyond for both customers and colleagues.

What’s important to you when selecting brands/products to purchase?
When selecting brands to purchase it is important to consider the saving for the customer, the demand for the product, availability in the market and the price point generally available in the market.

It is important to Intamarque to provide our customers with a solid core range of products at competitive prices.

It is also nice to provide our customers with a point of difference by offering NEW or alternative ranges.

When you were a child what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was younger I wanted to go into acting or filmmaking. I enjoyed working as an extra in the background in TV and Film. Now instead of memorising lines I can remember prices and product ranges.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
When I’m not working I’m generally running around after my two little boys. My household is chaotic and noisy but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Lockdown has meant baking, painting, dens… and a lot of tidying up!
